1901 Spalding Women's "Basket Ball" Guide
VintageBasketball.com acquires a 1901 Spalding Women's "Basket Ball" Guide!
It is always exciting to find rare items to add to the collection. Just recently, VintageBasketball.com was able to acquire one of the more difficult basketball items - the 1901 Spalding Women's "Basket Ball" Guide! A special thanks to John for selling such a great piece of basketball history.
As you scan the internet, don't let other mis-information fool you. The 1901 guide is incredibly rare, but it is not the first Spalding Women's Guide. That spot is reserved for the 1899 Spalding Women's Guide. Click on the image above to see proof if you are curious.
What this guide does provide is the second book of women's basketball rules. Imagine the difficult challenge that Senda Berenson and others undertook at the June 1899 Conference on Physical Training. At that conference, they sat down and consolidated all the different rule variations of women's basketball. That's pretty impressive stuff!
As of tonight - 377 total items uploaded!
I have been making progress on the website. Go check out the booklets section when you have the chance. I want to get this section more developed before I move back to other areas. When this website is complete, I hope you will be able to see an example of almost every type of item, and use the site to research items you are needing more information about.
A new category and 200+ Items Added!
Hi everyone, I have added over 200 items to the site. There are major changes on the way that will allow you to view larger images and organize everything chronologically. I added a new category - 1890s "Basket Ball" items. Please take a look at this when you have a chance. I have a couple other items to add to this in the near future. At some point, I will have a method to contact me. Also, I will hopefully have a way for images from outside my collection to be added so that there is a completeness to various categories. For now, I hope you enjoy the website in its current form.
