1975 Carvel Ice Cream Discs

Description:

The 1975 Carvel NBA Basketball Discs set contains 36 unnumbered discs measuring approximately 3 3/8" in diameter. The blank-backed discs come in five different colors (blue, green, yellow, orange, and pink), and feature black and white drawings of the players with facsimile signatures. Although I have never seen one, a poster was apparently produced which provided circular places for each of the 36 discs. The discs are unnumbered. The set is dated by the fact that 1974-75 was Happy Hairston and Chet Walker's last active year in the NBA. Similar to other MSA discs, Carvel discs contain portrait artwork by Charles Linnett. However, unlike other discs, the NBA Players Association logo is not shown, nor is the artist's signature. It is highly likely that Carvel worked with MSA (Mike Schechter Associates, Inc.) to have these discs made. MSA produced a variety of sports discs, many using Gugler Lithographic Co. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Seldom seen Clark Candy Cards! - June 19, 2016

Recently, I was lucky enough to find 10 of the 16 cards from the 1954 Clark Candy basketball set. These cards are quite rare and seldom seen, even by advanced basketball collectors.

Rare Album Postcard Acquired - March 1, 2016

Recently, I came across a surprising find - the 1928 Cuban Aguilitas Album Redemption postcard. When I've seen these in the past, they have always been baseball related. This one is basketball themed and shows the same image as card #397, the HNOS Maristas. The seller of this item said he found it in Cuba three decades ago. It is a nice and une...

While there are many rare items in our hobby, speaking specifically about cards, this is probably at the very top of the list in terms of rarity. Take a few minutes to read a little more a...
