In Naismith's book, Basketball Its Origin and Development, Naismith discussed the creation of two "vest-pocket guides". These guides were produced in 1892 and 1893 and were in response to the demand that was generated after the rules of basketball were published in the Triangle in January of 1892.
The guide from 1893 is 18 pages long. It is the second guide ever published on basketball, pre-dating all Spalding basketball guides. While there are probably a few articles that pre-date this item, it is still one of the first items ever in basketball. As stated by Naismith , these guides were " giving simply the aims and rules of the game."
This is another incredibly rare publication - only once seen for sale. I acquired this item in a private sale back in late January, 2010.
