1951 Wheaties George Mikan

Description:

The 1951 Wheaties George Mikan is part of a multi-sport set of 6 athletes. Golf, football, baseball, and this one basketball panel are included in the series. When folded, the box dimensions would be 4" x 2 7/8". However, the most common way to find this issue is in unused and unfolded (flat) condition. Apparently there must have been a find of these unfolded boxes at some point because they are everywhere. People will sometimes cut the Mikan portrait off the box to have it graded, which is not it's original form and worthless in my opinion. Sometimes you'll see the panels graded and overpriced. However, if you just buy the simple, unfolded box in it's original form, you will usually get a great vintage basketball item at a reasonable price.

Rare Album Postcard Acquired - March 1, 2016

Recently, I came across a surprising find - the 1928 Cuban Aguilitas Album Redemption postcard. When I've seen these in the past, they have always been baseball related. This one is basketball themed and shows the same image as card #397, the HNOS Maristas. The seller of this item said he found it in Cuba three decades ago. It is a nice and une...

While there are many rare items in our hobby, speaking specifically about cards, this is probably at the very top of the list in terms of rarity. Take a few minutes to read a little more a...
